Deadly Destroyer on Visit from U.S.

SLEEK AND DEADLY, the United States guided missile destroyer Buchanan is shown above movine up the Yarra past Newport power house yesterday. Her 12-day visit for the Coral Sea Celebrations has particular interest for Australia, as two similar ships are being built in America for the Royal Australian Navy. The photograph was taken from a new light helicopter, a Hughes 269A, which made its first test flight from Moorabbin yesterday for InternationalHelicopters (Aust.) Pry. Ltd. Buchanan had a rough trip from Brisbane.

The Commander of destroyer Division 152 (Captain A. L. Kobey), who is traveling in her, said the ship was hit by 50-knot winds, which rolled it through about 35 deg. Buchanan, commissioned last year, is armed with Tartar supersonic anti-aircraft missiles and Asroc anti-submarine rockets. She will leave Melbourne on May 11 for Guam.
